Dr. Scruggs was born in the Philippines and grew up in South Florida. She completed her B.S. at the University of Florida in 2001 and then earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Ross University in 2005.
Dr. Scruggs completed her internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the Animal Medical Center in New York City, and then she stayed in NYC for an additional year practicing general and emergency medicine.
In 2007, Dr. Scruggs moved to Colorado to complete a three-year residency in cardiology at Colorado State University. She also completed a M.S. degree and obtained board-certification from the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Cardiology) in 2010. Dr. Scruggs’ primary research focus during her residency was degenerative mitral valve disease.
Prior to joining SVS and returning to her Florida roots in 2013, Dr. Scruggs was the sole staff cardiologist at a private practice in Denver, Colorado. In addition to managing medical heart disease, such as congestive heart failure, Dr. Scruggs performs minimally invasive procedures including pacemaker implantation, PDA occlusion, valvuloplasty, and electrical cardioversion.
